Who we can help
A closer look at your exposure.
Drivers using personal vehicles for rideshare or app-based passenger services.
Coverage arrangements can change depending on the platform, province and whether an app is off, available or carrying a passenger. Delivery work is also a different use and should be disclosed.
What to discuss with your broker
Personal vehicle policy
Discuss whether the insurer accepts the declared rideshare activity and what conditions apply.
Platform arrangements
Review the platform’s insurance information, periods of use and deductibles.
Vehicle damage
Clarify how physical damage protection may depend on your own policy and the platform terms.
Other business uses
Disclose deliveries, multiple apps, commercial passengers and any other work-related driving.
These are areas to consider, not a promise of coverage. Options, exclusions, limits and availability depend on the insurer and your circumstances.
Have a useful first conversation.
If available, have the following information ready. Your broker will tell you what is needed for a formal submission.
- Province, platform names and type of driving
- Vehicle year, make, model, ownership and financing
- Estimated personal and business kilometres
- Current insurance and the platform’s insurance documents
A question worth asking
Does signing up with a platform replace telling my insurer?
No. Contact your broker before starting or changing app-based driving. Your personal insurer still needs an accurate description of how the vehicle is used.
