Coaching insurance program

Coaching takes commitment. So does protecting it.

A dedicated program for eligible Professional and NCCP coaches and Coach Developers, developed with the Coaching Association of Canada.

The program considers eligible paid and unpaid coaches, training instructors, independent coaches, mentors and Coach Developers who meet its requirements.

You must have an NCCP number and be in good standing with your sport organization. Apply from one of the provinces or territories listed in the application. CIBI will confirm sport, activity and residency eligibility.

Blanket additional insured and incidental medical malpractice liability. The application states a $1,000 bodily injury and property damage deductible.

Optional requests include increasing CGL and products/completed operations to $5 million and adding legal expense insurance. The stated worldwide coverage territory does not remove residency, activity or policy restrictions. Insurer approval and the issued policy govern.

From application to approval.

  1. Prepare. Have your NCCP number, transcript, activity details and safety information ready.
  2. Apply. Complete the online form or send a completed application to coaching-program@cibi.ca.
  3. Review. CIBI reviews the application, asks for anything missing and confirms eligibility and premium.
  4. Confirm. Arrange payment as instructed. CIBI confirms when coverage begins and provides policy documents.
How long does the process take?

CIBI’s published service guidance provides for an initial response within 48 hours and policy documents within 3–5 business days after the approval and payment steps. These are service expectations, not a guarantee; incomplete or complex submissions can take longer.

When does coverage begin?

The date entered in your application is a request. Do not assume you are insured until CIBI confirms approval, any payment requirements and the effective date.

How does the program term work?

The published program term runs from March 3 to March 3. Mid-term premiums are generally not prorated; contact CIBI about the terms that apply to your application.

What if my activity needs special review?

Declare every sport and activity, including higher-risk activities, overnight camps and one-on-one instruction. The application includes questions that help the underwriter assess them.

How do I report a coaching incident?

Document the incident and follow the reporting instructions in your policy. Contact CIBI for the required incident and claim forms. For an urgent event, use the insurer’s emergency reporting instructions. Claims assistance.
